The term “Essential Business” has been a popular buzz word during the Covid-19 crisis. My curiosity got the best of me so I did a little research to find out exactly what that means as it seems a little grey in today’s world. The definition of “Essential” is something necessary, indispensable, or unavoidable. I started thinking about the obvious essential businesses like hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, gas stations, etc… I was pleasantly surprised to find out “Real Estate” was also deemed to be an Essential Business during the Covid-19 pandemic. It makes sense that Real Estate is essential as people need a place to live. Real Estate also plays an important role in driving the economy for most countries and makes up a big part of GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
I took it a step forward and thought about my most essential sale to date. The deal that came to mind first was one of my lowest sale prices closed to date. The reason this particular deal was so essential was because the seller was from the United States, living here in Costa Rica, and down on his luck. The seller was basically down to his last dollar and did not have enough money to fly back to the United States & needed the equity from his house to survive. The seller would walk pass my office every morning with his dog asking for updates in a very respectable way. Long story short, we were able to sell his property and he was able to buy a plane ticket to fly home and start over. The seller contacted me a few months after we closed to let me know he was OK and was able to get a job in a local gym. As an added bonus I essentially became good friends with the buyer. All work is essential in different ways but it’s definitely fulfilling to be able to change someone’s life for the better…
